Registration for Community Vacation Bible School

Registration for 2017 Vacation Bible School is here!

This year Norman Davenport Parish will be partnering again with Kindred Lutheran to sponsor a Kindred Community Vacation Bible School during the month of August.  This year's theme will be Maker Fun Factory, and it will be hosted by Kindred Lutheran Church.

Dates:  August 14 - 17
Times:  6:00 PM to 8:15 PM
Location:  Kindred Lutheran Church

We will be collecting school supplies to donate to Kindred School, and we will be making tie-dyed shirts again too!

Registration forms are available at both Norman and Davenport churches.  Please return registration forms to Pastor Laura or Diane Kjelstrup.

We love our volunteers!  Without you our community vacation bible school would never happen.  This year Norman Davenport Parish will be in charge of leading Imagination Station (crafts) for both pre-K and elementary students as well as the KidVid Cinema (movie) for the elementary kids.  Our very own Pastor Laura will be working together with Pastor Beth from Caanan Moravian Church to lead the Bible Story stations.  (Thank you ladies!)  We will also need help in the kitchen and will need group leaders for pre-K and elementary kids.

Vacation Bible School will again be free and open to all students entering grades pre-K through 5th grade.  If anyone is interested in offering a monetary or in-kind donation of food or craft supplies to help support our community VBS, please direct those gifts to Pastor Laura.  We will have more specifics regarding what food and supplies are needed closer to the dates of the event.

Everyone is invited to a short program on the last evening of VBS where the kids will be singing and treats will be served outside.

If you have any questions please contact Pastor Laura or Diane Kjelstrup.

Please let us know if you are able to volunteer with any of the following areas and which nights you would be available.

Imagination Station (crafts) for pre-K
Imagination Station (crafts) for elementary
KidVid Cinema (movie) for elementary
Kitchen Volunteers
Group Leaders for pre-K

Feedback Requested - Future Parish Worship Times

The subject of the monthly alternating of parish worship times was discussed at the last parish council meeting. The parish council would love the input of both congregations on the idea of, as a trial, not alternating worship times from September-December 2017. The idea is that not alternating every month is more welcoming to visitors, and even for members, in knowing when each church’s service will take place. In order to continue to be fair in terms of early vs. late worship, the council is considering alternating the times every year. However, in order to see how each congregation feels about a set time, the council’s thought is to have set worship times for both congregations for the months of September through December 2017, and then discussing how it went at the Annual Meeting in January to determine if the congregations wish to continue with the change. Please talk with your respective council members or Pastor Laura and share any questions, concerns, or feedback regarding this idea.

Norman Council Wants Your Ideas!

At the February Church Council meeting, the council held a brainstorm session to come up with priorities for the year for our congregation and church. Out of this session came two key priorities we would love the entire congregation to play a part in! If you have any ideas or input to share in either or both of these areas, please reach out to any of the named group members below!

1. Fellowship and Activities: With our construction now complete and a beautiful facility to use, we thought a great priority to focus on this year would be to increase fellowship opportunities in our church and really put it to use. Some ideas included planning more special events,  finding fun and spiritual activities that can bring our members and their families closer together, and creating/cultivating a sense of community and hospitality. Have specific ideas or examples to increase our fellowship and fun?! Share them with Stacy Swenson, Diane Kjelstrup, or Andy Westby!

2. WOW Worship: How can we make our already great worship services make people say WOW?! We have such great talents and surroundings to enhance our services, so why don't we use them more! Ideas included things such as more outdoor services in the summer and incorporating more music, choir, bands, etc. into our services. Have ideas that would make us all say WOW?! Share them with Dawn Thompson, Erik Thoen, or Jess Wieser!
