Special Meeting to Vote on Proposed Education Hall

To: Norman Lutheran Congregation
From: Eric Berg, Norman President

The Norman Church Council called for the formation of a Norman Building Committee to develop a plan for the construction of an education hall to be added to the existing church.  The final report of the Norman Building Committee has been presented to the congregation.  Three separate discussion meeting have been held.  The architects’ drawings have been on display in the narthex for viewing and discussion and are also currently available for access on the Norman website (www.NDparish.com).  The architects estimate this project would cost in the mid $300,000 range.  As of December 31, 2012, there is $225,577 in cash assets stemming from the sale of an anonymous land donation to Norman Lutheran.  It was the intention of the donor that this money be used for constructing an addition to be used for Christian education.
A congregational meeting will be held following the worship service on Sunday November 24, 2013 to vote on approval of the education hall.

Congregants will vote YES or NO.
A YES vote indicates that you support the Building Committee’s recommendation to construct the proposed education wing.  A YES vote indicates that you believe that the addition of the education hall will help us to fulfill our Christian mission for the greater good of the members of Norman Lutheran Church, the community of faith, and the community as a whole.
A NO vote indicates that you do not support the construction of the proposed education hall addition as it has been presented.

Pastor Nathan's Farewell Letter

Norman and Davenport Parish
161 Walnut St. Kindred, ND 58051    701-428-3765

August 10, 2013

Grace and peace to you from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

As many of you are aware, my time with you is coming to an end.   As I reflect upon the last two years, I am amazed at all the ways in which God has brought us together to share in many of life’s events.  With some of you I have shared great joys and celebrations.  With some I have shared great times of sorrow and grief.  It has been an honor to share in these events along with other moments that we have shared in the Gospel, shared in the love of God and be the very Body of Christ together.

I can not say “thank you” enough for all that you have shared, given to me and what we have done together in sharing the Gospel.  Thank you for your love, your prayers, your encouragement, and above all, your willingness to go where God was calling us while I served as your Pastor.  Thank you for allowing me to be a part of that time with you.

Yet as I depart, I know that I am leaving you in good hands.  I see the great potential that you have within your future that we have worked towards in the past two years.  Within these past two years, we have done so much and done a lot of work to prepare the path for the future.  We have established many great teachings that will allow the whole congregation to continue in their faith journey and welcome others into their own faith journey. Looking to the future, I see many blessings and joys that are able to happen within the two congregations.

I have received a Letter of Call to the Portland Parish as their Senior Pastor.  I leave knowing and trusting that the Interim Pastor will care for you and your needs.  Along with sharing with you the love that Christ has given to us all.  I know also that God will deliver unto you, the gift of a new Pastor who will care for you as I have.   I will continue to pray for you as you continue to be the people that God is calling you to be and guide you down the road together.

God’s rich blessings be upon you all,

Pastor Nathan Strong

NORMAN Sunday School Survey and Meeting

Dear Grades 9-12 Youth and Parents (this includes students starting 9th grade next fall):

Our council at Norman supports Sunday School for youth 9-12, and we are lucky that we have parents, volunteers and a program in place to make this happen!  We realize that students (and parents) are very busy, so as the Board of Education plans for 2013-14 we would love your feedback to help make the Sunday School youth study experience as exciting and inspiring as possible.

We are conducting the survey for parents and youth to explore topics and curriculum that are most interesting and applicable to students in grades 9-12.  Essentially, what do students want learn about and/or what do parents want them to learn about?
Your feedback is greatly appreciated and will assist us in planning out the schedule for Grades 9-12 next fall.  All answers will be confidential.

Please follow this link to a survey and complete one survey per person (one per student, parents together or one each).  A Facebook and text reminder may also be sent out to make sure everyone has an opportunity to share his/her ideas for this program.
The more comments you provide regarding the program, the better we can make it!

 http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/92SV3TD

The survey results will be discussed at the May 19 parent meeting, and a proposed fall schedule will be introduced based on the results.  Please have your survey information submitted byMONDAY, MAY 13.

Thanks,
Norman Church Board of Education

Norman Davenport Parish – Special Meeting

Norman Davenport Parish – Special Meeting

Sunday May 19 immediately after each church service

Pastor Nathan was hired on a two-year Letter of Call. That Call (contract) is set to expire in September 2013. The Parish Council is requesting your attendance at this special meeting to vote to approve an open-ended Call for Pastor Nathan. An open-ended Call is customary for Pastoral contracts. This is a ballot vote and the ballot will read:

I approve retaining Nathan Strong as Pastor for Norman – Davenport Lutheran Parish by extension of his employment contract to an open-ended Call.

A “YES” vote will retain Pastor Nathan as Pastor. A “NO” vote will allow his current 2 year Letter of Call to expire and we will begin the process of forming a Call Committee to identify a new Pastor. The ballot vote requires a 2/3 majority YES vote and must be approved by both churches in order to extend Pastor Nathan’s contract. A second vote to approve Pastor’s compensation package would require a simple majority vote. Please plan to attend this very important meeting. You must be in attendance to vote and we must have a quorum represented in order to conduct the vote

Faith Five

1.   Share – Your highs and lows for the day
2.   Read – Scripture from Sunday
3.   Talk – about how the bible relates to your highs and lows
4.   Pray – for your highs and lows, family and the world
5.   Bless – one another

I pray that you are continuing to use and find this helpful.  This is a great tool to use as a family to stay united in the presence of God.   As you gather together, share your highs and lows from the day.  This allows you all to share where you are at.  This is key within Lutheran theology, for this is how God approaches us, where we are. Then gather around God's Word from Sunday's lessons or select a book to journey through.  Take a moment for reflection then talk about how your highs and lows relate to the Bible readings.  This can be a challenge sometimes.  Once you have taken some time with this, pray about your highs and lows, giving thanks and praying for help and guidance but also for your family and the world around us.  Finally end your time by blessing one another as you go forth back into the world but empowered by the Holy Spirit, surrounded by the love of your family and God to face the world.
